The last Flame to be lit was the Middle Eastern Flame. The head of the British RAF airbase in Bahrain would light the Flame. The RAF was the largest airforce in the Middle East at that time. He invited his colleagues to come together for the lighting of the flame, maintaining silence for some minutes. They were asked to contemplate on the moment they decided to join the Air Force, the moment that they decided to offer their lives so their country could stay free. As the Flame was lit, the commander spoke the words: ‘May all beings be at peace, and may all beings find the true peace that lies in their hearts’. The Flame was then flown to the UK by the British Royal Air Force.

If, after all, men cannot always make history have a meaning, they can always act so their own lives have one.
